Educational qualification: Graduate MLA’s electoral record: Udai Bhan comes from a political family. He joined student politics and became MLA on Lok Dal ticket in 1987. He won as an independent in 2000, and as a Congress candidate in 2005 and 2014.
Constituency primer: The Hodal assembly segment in Palwal district shares border with Uttar Pradesh and is close to Mathura. It is located 88 km from Delhi and is dominated by Jats, who constitute the largest number of voters. It has a significant scheduled caste (SC) population. The constituency also has Gujjar and Muslim voters. The total number of electorate is 1.76 lakh. Electoral history: 2014: Udai Bhan of the Congress defeated Jagdish Nayar of INLD by 11,680 votes.
2009 Jagdish Nayar (INLD) beat Udai Bhan of Congress by 2,621 votes.
How he performed: The Congress MLA says the last five years have been a struggle for him and his constituency as there was no development. He alleges the BJP government had announced a bridge over Yamuna at Hassanpur but the project is stuck.The projects to construct a girls’ college and the proposed bus stand at Hassanpur are stuck despite land being offered for the former. Aggarsen park has not been revived as no grants were given to the MLA. The government diverted water of the Ujhina drain to Mewat and a wall is being built on both sides of the Gocchi drain, which will stop access to water in many villages.
