Light & sound show on rivers to promote Guru’s teachings

JALANDHAR: To commemorat­e the 550th birth anniversar­y of Guru Nanak, the state government is organising a floating ‘light and sound’ laser show in districts situated near Satluj and Beas rivers, and a digital museum exhibition all-district headquarte­rs of the state. The shows which begin from next month, are part of the yearlong celebratio­ns and aim at propagatin­g the Guru’s teachings.

In a recent letter to deputy commission­ers of Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Amritsar, Taran-Tarn, Rupnagar, SBS Nagar, Ludhiana, Moga and Ferozepur, the government has asked the officers to secure an area of 300 x 590 ft for a viewing gallery and ceremonial float which will be stationed at the rivers for two days. Officials have also been asked to create awareness about these two shows to be held daily from 7pm to 7:45pm and from 8:30 pm to 9:15 pm with a capacity to seat up to 5,000 people. Officials will also ensure that no trees or houses obstruct those viewing the float from the gallery.

To ensure comfort of the audience, ample lighting and signages will be installed up to a distance of 500 metres.

All the DCs are to arrange for the exhibition of a mobile digital museum and a sound and light show at the district headquarte­rs, in addition to the towns of Dera Baba Nanak, Sultanpur Lodhi and Batala. The digital museum, to be stationed at the venue for three days, will be open to public between 6:30 am to 6 pm. The light and sound show will be held at the same place for two days from 7pm to 7:30 pm and from 8:30 pm –9:00 pm, the letter reads.

Principal secretary, directorat­e of tourism, Vikas Partap said the floating lights on river banks and the shows will be organised in the districts across the state.
