Six killed, four injured after boulders hit vehicle in Tehri
TRAGEDY The accident took place near Devprayag town around 2.30 pm
DEHRADUN: Six people were killed and four others injured after the vehicle they were travelling in was hit by heavy boulders brought down by a landslide in Devprayag area of Tehri Garhwal on Saturday afternoon, said State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) officials.
“The incident took place around 2.30 pm near Devprayag town when a minibus bearing a registration number of Punjab was hit by heavy boulders due to landslide,” said Vijay, SDRF official.
He added, “The SDRF and the local police soon reached the spot after receiving information about the incident from locals. Five people died on the spot while one succumbed later during treatment after being rushed to hospital with four others.”
In the initial investigation it was found that all of them were headed to Srinagar town of Pauri Garhwal from Rishikesh.
The deceased were identified as Surendra Kumar, Gurdeep, Tejendrapal Singh, Jitendrapal Singh, Gurpreet Singh and driver Lovely Singh.
The injured were identified as Ramesh Singh, Devendrapal, both seriously injured, and Surendrapal Singh and Amritpal Singh who have sustained minor injuries. All hail from Punjab.
“The four injured have been shifted to AIIMS, Rishikesh after receiving primary treatment in a nearby hospital.” he said.
In another incident, a 30-yearold man drowned in Kho river of Kotdwar area in Pauri Garhwal district. “SDRF had received information about the incident in the morning. It soon rushed to the spot and fished his body out,” said Vijay. Earlier, the Dehradun meteorological centre issued alert for heavy to very rainfall in at least eight districts of the state on Saturday. The districts include Dehradun, Pauri Garhwal, Tehri Garhwal, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Nainital and Pithoragarh. In its weather forecast for the next 24 hours, it has predicted light and intense showers in some areas.
