Worth watching Hrithik, Tiger together

- MONIKA RAWAL KUKREJA

There’s swag, style and sass, high-flying action scenes, car and bike chases and a jawdropping series of twists. What else would you expect from a film that has Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff?

Directed by Siddharth Anand, War turns out to be a good-looking, fun espionageinspired thriller. But don’t expect too much on the story front. When two actors fighting it out on the big screen, everything else is secondary.

The film opens with Kabir (Hrithik Roshan) shown as an intelligence-operativeturned-traitor, killing his own ‘important’ people. Flashbacks establish how he met his protégée, Khalid (Tiger Shroff), who then joins his unit. Khalid is assigned the task of tracing and arresting Kabir, and also figure out why he’s gone rogue. We only learn that in a second flashback, post intermission. Hrithik and Tiger’s onscreen camaraderie remains the USP of the film. Whether they’re fighting or dancing or just being there flaunting their six-pack abs and chiseled bodies — it’s nothing short of a visual treat. Neither actor is trying to prove his supremacy, they’re feeding off each other’s energy. They share a pleasant comic vibe, too. Anand has cleverly introduced it at places without sounding awkward. The film offers no scope to its female actors. Vaani Kapoor appears in the second half, and disappears before you understand what her role in the plot is.

Even supporting actors Ashutosh Rana and Soni Razdan are wasted in this largerthan-life script. Anupriya Goenka, however, does make her presence felt.

War doesn’t wait for the climax to show off its action sequences. Shot across Morocco, Portugal, Iraq and a bit of Delhi and Kerala, it excels in the action department. Imagine a blend of Mission Impossible and the Fast & Furious films. Likewise seeing Tiger and Hrithik — touted as Gods of dance — shake a leg together is impressive, even though the song Jai Jai Shivshankar might look it comes out of nowhere. War suffers from a weak screenplay.

But it’s a spectacle; worth the watch for the joy of watching Hrithik and Tiger on the screen.
