ON THURSDAY, ASHA RANI AND JASPAL SINGH, BOTH RESIDENTS OF AJNALA, DIED DUE TO SUSPECTED DENGUE

Even though the district health department is claiming of taking required measures to curb dengue, one more suspected dengue death was reported in Ajnala on Saturday. This is the third death reported in Ajnala due to suspected mosquito-borne disease in last three days.

The deceased has been identified as Pooja (32), a resident of Ajnala. “Pooja was suffering from high fever and was admitted to a private hospital in Amritsar, where she was diagnosed ‘positive’ for dengue. She died during the course of treatment,” said Deepak Arora, husband of the deceased.

Earlier on Thursday, Asha Rani and Jaspal Singh, both residents of Ajnala, had died due to suspected dengue. In September, two more suspected dengue deaths were reported in Gumtala village, Amritsar.

District epidemiologist officer (DEO) Dr Madan Mohan said, “The deceased were admitted to private hospitals in Ajnala and they have not been yet diagnosed positive for dengue by Government Medical College, Amritsar. The samples of deceased will be tested to ascertain if they died due to dengue.”

Till now this year, the district health department has detected 164 suspected dengue cases in the district, out of which 60 have been tested positive.

“However, no confirmed dengue death in the district have been reported yet and the condition of patients is under control,” added DEO.

HEALTH DEPARTMENT BLAMES MC

“The district health department and Amritsar Municipal Corporation (MC) have equal role in curbing the disease, but it is the civic body which is responsible for fogging.

MC, however, has not taken the required measures and regular fogging was not done by it,” said the DEO, adding that he had met MC commissioner Komal Mittal and urged her to conduct regular fogging to check the spread of Aedes mosquito.

Mittal, however, said, “MC is already conducting fogging and challans are also being issued to ‘erring’ residents.”
