THE AIMPLB ASSERTED THAT IT WOULD OPPOSE ANY MOVE TO IMPOSE A UNIFORM CIVIL CODE (UCC) BY ANY MEANS

: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) held a meeting on on Saturday on the impending Ayodhya verdict and said it was sure the Supreme Court verdict will be in consonance with the rule of law and basic values of the Constitution. Expecting trouble from a section of the clergy in favour of a negotiated settlement on the Ayodhya issue, police force was deployed outside the Nadwa College premises in Lucknow where the AIMPLB meeting was held. Jamait-e-Ulema Maulana Arshad Madni and general secretary Mahmood Madni also attended the meeting but refused to take questions from the media.

“The Supreme Court will pronounce judgement in favour of the Muslim cause,” said the statement. The AIMPLB asserted that it would oppose any move to impose a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) by any means. “Any attempts to enact UCC either through legislative means or through courts will not only affect Muslims but also impact the educational, cultural and social rights of other religious minorities. Therefore, the board demands that the courts refrain from this anti-national activity,” it said. “As regards the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act 2019, the board has decided to challenge its Constitutional validity on ground that it suffers from many manifest arbitraries,” said the board.
