KARNAL : Union minister Smriti Irani on Friday hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for speaking against abrogation of Article 370.

“We all were surprised when the Congress opposed the abrogation of Article 370 in Parliament and they termed it an international issue, ignoring the sacrifices of our brave soldiers who laid their lives for Jammu and Kashmir,” Smriti, who was addressing an election rally in support of BJP candidate Aseem Goel at Ambala City, said. “But PM Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah took this bold step”, she added.

Smriti, who defeated Rahul Gandhi in Lok Sabha elections from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, accused him of supporting the division of India by provoking anti-national slogans in a University in Delhi.

She also accused the Congress of ignoring the poor and said that Modi government had introduced several schemes for them.

“Yuvraj (Rahul Gandhi) and Congress never understood the misery of the poor women, who did not have LPG connections and toilets in their houses because his family never faced such hardship,” she said adding, Modiji understands this pain of poor women and provided LPG connections to eight crore poor families and toilets to 11 crore poor families in five years.”

“Jo Congress wale 70 saal me sauchalya na bana sake, woh Haryana kya banayenge,” she added. Counting the achievements of BJP governments at the Centre and state, she said there is a need of strong and stable government, urging people of Ambala to vote for the BJP. “Press the lotus button to protect the constitution and the country from its enemies.”

The Union textiles minister also assured her all support to traders of Ambala cloth market.

“Lakshmi does not come holding Yuvraj’s hand, but She comes riding on a lotus,” she tells the gathering to keep their houses clean ahead of Diwali and keep the law-breakers outside their house by voting for the BJP.

Earlier, folk Singer and BJP MP from Delhi Hans Raj Hans also entertained the gathering with his Punjabi songs.
