GOHANA/HISAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday lashed out at the Congress over its stand on Article 370, saying its statements were being used by Pakistan against India and asked what kind of “chemistry” it shares with the neighbouring country. With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) making abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir a big poll issue, Modi said parties like the Congress could neither understand sentiments of people nor respect sacrifices made by brave jawans.

PM Modi was addressing his first of the two election rallies in Haryana on Friday and his fifth one for the October 21 assembly election.

“Should I take decisions in national interest or not, should national interest be above politics or not? But the Congress is not able to understand this feeling of people of Sonepat and people of Haryana,” he said in Gohana.

Making a stinging attack on the Congress, he said the party was in “pain” since August 5 when the Centre decided to abrogate special status of Jammu and Kashmir. “Do you recall what happened on August 5? On that day such a thing happened which no one could have imagined, about which in a way the country had given up hope. On August 5, India’s Constitution in entirety became applicable in J&K. For 70 years, what was stumbling block in development of J&K and Ladakh, we removed that.”

“But since then Congress and parties like them are in a pain that no medicine is able to cure. ‘Congress ke pet mein dard Congress ki la ilaaj bemari ban gaya hai. “And Congress is suffering from such a disease that when we talk of Swachh India, surgical strike, they have a problem and if anyone takes Balakot’s name, their pain increases,” he said.

He said statements made by Congress leaders on scrapping Article 370 were being used by Pakistan.

“Now, the country knows why Congress goes through this pain, for whose sympathy, for whom it is. You have seen the statements Congress leaders made on Kashmir are helping whom, who is taking benefit of such statements and where these are used.

“Do you know who is taking benefit of these,?” said Modi and when the crowds replied “Pakistan”, Modi told them “you are correct”.

“What kind of chemistry is this with Pakistan, whose chemistry is this and for whom. In these polls, you will have to find an answer to this,” he said.

Later in the day, while addressing a rally in Hisar, the Prime Minister urged the voters in Haryana to re-elect his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Monday’s assembly elections as he promised to take the state to the path of “double engine” of development.

“You have given us the opportunity to serve you in Delhi and Haryana for the last five years. Most of the time was used to remove bad things. Now, I have to look after you with full power and the Haryana government has to as well,” PM Modi said.

“I spent the last five years removing mismanagement, filling pits and removing weaknesses. Now, I have to look for you with full force and Haryana government too. The power of the double engine has to be run at a fast speed,” he said.

The Prime Minister once again asserted that his government will stop water flowing to Pakistan and divert it to Haryana.

“If I decide to do something, I stop only when I have finished with it. The water which rightfully belongs to you will no longer flow into Pakistan. All the necessary steps have also been taken for this. We have started India’s biggest water campaign so that every house and every farm gets sufficient water,” he said.

Lauding the Haryana BJP government, Modi said that Khattar government has ended the “kharchi and parchi wala Congress culture” (corruption and favouritism) and has given a clean and transparent regime.

The Prime Minister also praised the sons of Haryana who sacrifice their lives for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
