TO KEEP UP WITH A RUSH OF DEVOTEES AT GURDWARA BER SAHIB, DONATION BOX THAT WAS EARLIER EMPTIED AFTER A MONTH, HAS TO BE OPENED DAILY

SULTANPUR LODHI : Though the 550th Parkash Purab celebrations will begin from November 1, pilgrims have already started pouring into the holy city in large numbers. As per district administration officials at least 1 lakh people enter Sultanpur Lodhi on a daily basis.

These figures multiply over weekends and on festivals. To keep up with a heavy stream of devotees at Gurdwara Ber Sahib, the donation box that was earlier emptied after a month, has to be opened almost daily.

Gurdwara Ber Sahib manager Satnam Singh said, “Approximately 1.5 lakh people visited the gurdwara on Wednesday and long queues could be seen on its premises all day. The shrine has never witnessed such a huge turnout in the past.”

VEHICLES TO STOP 3KM FROM THE SHRINE

Commuters are being inconvenienced due to the heavy flow of vehicles at Udam Singh Chowk , near Dadwindi village and near the tent city. Police are asking vehicles to stop 3km away from the shrine.

At present, commuters can park their four-wheelers at three parking lots — Randhirpur Village, Mahablipur Village and FCI Godown at Lohian-Makhu Road— that are hardly at 1km away from the city.

“Come November 1, all vehicles will be stopped around two to three kilometres away at the outer parking. All private vehicles will be stopped at the parkings and people will be ferried to the inner parking in 300 buses. From the inner parking, pilgrims will be transported to city in 800 e-rickshaws,” a senior administration official said.
