Robbers’ gang busted in Amritsar, 12 arrested

AMRITSAR : Twelve members of a gang of robbers and snatchers were arrested from different parts of the city on Wednesday.

Police have arrested Karamjit Singh, Angrej Singh, Balvinder Singh, Satnam Singh, Parampreet Singh, Atinderpal Singh, Gagandeep Singh, Rahul alias Pindi, Rahul alias Bholu, Karan, Suraj Masih and Gurpreet Singh. They are all residents of Amritsar.

Police seized 12 mobile phones and two sharp-edged weapons from their possession. Six motorbikes and a scooter were impounded.

Deputy commission­er of police (DCP, law and order) Jagmohan Singh said, “Acting on the commission­er of police Sukhchain Singh Gill’s orders, the accused were rounded up to stem the increasing snatching and robbery incidents in the city. Acting on tip offs, police teams led by CIA in-charge Mukhwinder Singh patrolled the city to arrest the accused.

The accused admitted to be involved in the snatching and robbery cases.The gang had robbed people 22 times in the last few days alone. The gang members particular­ly stole handbags from parked vehicles.”

“Five members of the gang are absconding,” said DCP, adding that a number of check points have been installed in the city to nab the accused. A case was registered under Sections 379 (theft), 379 B, 411 (receiving stolen property), 148 (armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (every member of assembly guilty of offence) of the IPC.
