The Congress party is to hold a protest at all district headquarters across the state on November 15 to flay the Union government’s anti-people policies. The party will also oppose the decision to sign regional comprehensive economic partnership (RCEP) treaty as it is against the interests of indigenous farmers.

The decision was taken at a district presidents meet, presided over by president PPCC, Sunil Jakhar on Sunday.

In the meeting, duties were also assigned for commemoration of Guru Nanak 550th birth anniversary. District Congress presidents were also told to gear up for local government elections.

Jakhar said the people were suffering severe depression due to irrational economic policies of Modi government, with industries shutting down, unemployment at its highest rate and farming sector going through its worst phase. He said the party had planned a protest across the state on November 15 to highlight the Centre’s failures.

Talking about RCEP Jakhar said that after the agreement, the economy of farmers and milk producers in India will be completely destroyed.

He said, under this agreement, import of cheap grain and milk products from abroad would flow in freely, adversely impacting Indian farmers who were already getting inadequate value for their produce.

“Policies of BJP-led Modi government had been anti-farmer but with this treaty, the Modi government plans to make farmers beggars ,” Jakhar said.

On these anti-farmer policies, the PPCC president also questioned Akali Dal, its ally at the Centre, as to why party leaders who claimed to be saviours of farmers were silent.

Jakhar invited all party leaders to attend the 550th prakash purb event at Sultanpur Lodhi on November 12.

THE PARTY WILL ALSO OPPOSE DECISION TO SIGN THE RCEP TREATY, CLAIMING THAT IT IS AGAINST THE INTERESTS OF INDIGENOUS FARMERS
