SGPC to elect new chief, office-bearers on Nov 27

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC)’s general house meeting to elect its new president and other executive members will be held at its office in Teja Singh Samundri Hall, Amritsar, on November 27.

The decision in this regard was taken during the gurdwara body’s executive committee meeting on Sunday at Sri Guru Ram Das Medical College, Vallah.

The executive committee meeting was organised under SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal.

“We have taken the decision to hold general house meeting on November 27 at our office in Teja

Singh Samundari Hall. The meeting will start at around 1pm. During the meeting, SGPC president, senior vice president, junior vice president, general secretary among eleven members of the executive committee will be elected. It is mandatory for the SGPC to elect its office bearers every year in November,” said Longowal after the meeting.

It was also decided to celebrate the 550th birth anniversar­y of Guru Nanak with full fervor, said Longowal. “We will continue to spread the teaching of the first Sikh master. Next year has been dedicated to promote Sikhism all over the world,” he added.

SGPC chief secretary Roop Singh said, “In the meeting, it was also decided that 400 years of Bandi Chhor Diwas will be celebrated next year. 400 years ago, sixth Sikh master Guru Hargobind Singh had freed 52 kings from a prison in Gwalior. We have also decided to celebrate 750th birth anniversar­y of Bhagat Naam Dev, next year.”

SGPC senior vice president Raghujit Singh Virak, junior vice president Bikkar Singh Channu, general secretary Gurbachan Singh Karmuwal among other members of executive committee were present.
