:The budding artists of the region are getting never-before opportunities due to the efforts of the Punjab Lalit Kala Akademi (PLKA) and the Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi(CLKA).

While CLKA facilitated five young tricity artists to attend the Venice Art Festival and visit the museums in Paris and Rome this month, the PLKA has invited applications from art students of Punjab to visit the Serendipity Arts Festival, Goa-2019, and the India Art Fair, New Delhi-2020.

PLKA president Diwan Manna, who started this trend in the region, told HT, “This is to promote understanding of contemporary art practice among students and give them the opportunity to travel and witness the creatively charged environment and ambience of mega art events organised in various parts of the country.”

He added, “Exposure to national and international art is more beneficial to young artists than mere scholarships. In the region they get less opportunity to see good exhibitions or meet artists who are excelling in their work.” Last year, the Akademi had sponsored nine young artists from Punjab to attend the Kochi Bienalle Art Festival.

The grant is being given to students studying visual art and art history and as many as 15 students will be selected for this grant which includes return travel to Goa and New Delhi as well as stay and daily allowance for food and beverages.

The last date for the applications is November 16 and the applications can be downloaded from the PLKA website.
