Special girdawari pegs flood losses at ₹28cr in Jalandhar

JALANDHAR: Special girdawari (surveryors­hip) conducted by the district administra­tion, Jalandhar, assessed flood losses in the district at ₹28 crore.

The report, which includes crop loss, house damage, loss of human life and animals, was forwarded to the department of revenue and rehabilita­tion, Punjab, for the process to grant the relief to the victims. Several teams of revenue officers had conducted the special assessment in 94 villages of Phillaur and Shahkot sub-division in Jalandhar district.

The report reveals that crops on 22, 167 acres were damaged between 75-100 percent, on 391 acres were damaged between 33-75 percent and on 68 acres between 26-32 percent. Around 8,782 farmers were affected by the floods for more than a month.

The report revealed around 26 pucca houses that were fully damaged are entitled for ₹95,100 compensati­on each, while 1496 partially damaged pucca houses are eligible for ₹5,200 relief each.

Meanwhile, damages worth ₹ 30.43 lakh were assessed for fully damaged Kutcha houses, while the partly damaged six kutcha houses will get around ₹2.17 lakh.

The report assessed a loss of ₹2.33 lakh for damage to cattle sheds.

The district administra­tion has sought ₹4 lakh against one person who died due to drowning in the floods.

As per the survey report, ₹29.10 lakh relief was sought for the loss of 97 cattle and ₹1.23 lakh relief for six other animals, including bullock, calf and others. A senior official privy to the report said that the loss in the survey report mainly covers crop and house damages, loss of human life and animals, while the loss of other public properties, including roads, electricit­y poles, cables and others will separately be calculated by department­s concerned.
