Hry assembly session from tomorrow, set to be stormy
Opposition Congress, INLD ready to corner BJP-JJP government on paddy purchase ‘scam’, law and order situation, unemployment
THE TWO-DAY SESSION WILL COMMENCE AT 11AM WITH THE GOVERNOR’S ADDRESS, AS PER A TENTATIVE SCHEDULE
CHANDIGARH : The two-day Haryana assembly session, which begins on Monday, is likely to be a stormy affair with opposition ready to corner the BJP-JJP government on various issues, including paddy purchase scam, law and order situation and unemployment.
The special session, which has been convened to pass a resolution ratifying the 126th Constitutional Amendment for extension of SC/ST reservation for another 10 years, will commence at 11 am on Monday with the governor’s address.
Subsequently, obituaries references would be read following which the amended legislation would be ratified by the House. A discussion would be held on the governor’s address thereafter, which would be resumed on Tuesday, as per the tentative programme.
Even though there is no question hour, the session is set to be stormy with the opposition Congress and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) rolling up their sleeves to raise issues like paddy scam, farm crisis, law and order situation and unemployment.
Of the total 90 legislators in the House, the ruling BJP has 40 MLAs and its coalition partner JJP 10. The Congress has 31 legislators and INLD has only one.
There are seven independent MLAs and a sole MLA of Haryana Lokhit Party.
Leader of opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the Congress would raise several issues against the BJP-JJP government, which he termed as directionless.
“There are issues pertaining to the paddy purchase scam and rising unemployment for which the government will have to give answers. The farmers of the state have suffered huge crop losses in the recent hailstorm, but the government has yet not announced any special survey (girdawari),” he said.
INLD leader Abhay Chautala also said he would raise questions pertaining to the paddy scam and the drug menace in the state.
“The issue of lawlessness in the state too has to be discussed in the session. While the top ministers in the government are engaged in a tug of war to undermine each other over jurisdiction of departments, the people of the state are suffering,” he added.
