NIGERIAN HEROIN SUPPLIER HELD, BROUGHT TO KULLU
MANDI: A major heroin supplier was arrested from New Delhi on Saturday and brought to Kullu on Sunday.
A special team of seven members of the Himachal Police, lead by Kullu assistant superintendent of police Ashok Ratan, arrested Kenneth 28, of Nigeria under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act. Kullu superintendent of police (SP) Gaurav Singh said Kenneth was arrested after interrogating a local supplier Shubham who was arrested on January 13.
Kullu superintendent of police (SP) Gaurav Singh said in the last five months more than 500 grams of heroin (chitta) had been recovered in more than 30 cases under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act and 55 people had been arrested in Kullu.
Singh said in these cases a number of local contraband supplier were caught, and an investigation into the source of supply of the contraband, revealed that some foreigners were involved in the supply of the contraband.
He said that the whereabouts of the kingpin supplier was revealed during investigations of the arrested local persons and that of the six kingpins accused, five belong to Nigeria, while one person is citizen of West Asia. Two of the accused did not have any passport or visa.
The SP said Kenneth had been brought to Kullu and the police are fulfilling legal formalities under Section 29 of the NDPS Act and Section 14 of The Foreigners Act.
