Tributes paid to departed leaders

CHANDIGARH: Tributes were paid to prominent personalit­ies who had died between the period from the end of the previous session and the beginning of the current session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha, here on Monday.

Leader of the House and chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Vidhan Sabha Speaker Gian Chand Gupta and leader of the opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda read out the obituary resolution­s.

The house paid homage to former Union minister of state Ishwar Dayal Swami, former MPs Het Ram and Ashwani Kumar and former Haryana minister Shamsher Singh Surjewala.

Tributes were also paid to two freedom fighters, namely Nihal Singh of Mahendraga­rh district and Sardar Tara Singh of Hisar, and 12 martyrs who showed indomitabl­e courage and made the supreme sacrifice of their lives while safeguardi­ng the unity and integrity of the country. They were Subedar Major Parkash Chand, junior warrant officer Gobind Singh, Havildar Sumer Singh (all from Mahendraga­rh district), Havildar Jai Pal of Palwal, Havildar Nirmal Singh of Yamunanaga­r, LAC Chirag Nain of Jind, Lance Naik Tejpal of Gurugram, Sepoy Naveen of Mahendraga­rh, Sepoy Amit, Sepoy Satyawan, Sepoy Parvesh (all from district Jhajjar) and Sepoy Kushal Pal Singh of Karnal. The House also condoled the demise of Satbir, cousin of education minister Kanwar Pal, Capt Karan Singh Dalal, father of agricultur­e minister Jai Parkash Dalal, Sushila Devi, mother-inlaw of MLA Seema Trikha, Sona Devi, mother of MLA Subhash Gangoli, Padma Swami, wife of former Union minister Ishwar Dayal Swami, Devender Singh, brother of former MP Surender Singh Barwala, Urmila Dabda, mother-in-law of Randeep Singh Surjewala, former minister and Om Parkash, brother of former MLA Somvir Singh.
