SRINAGAR: A five-member team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is questioning deputy superintendent of police Davinder Singh.

The special team led by a senior officer had arrived in Kashmir on Sunday. Meanwhile, J&K police will be handing over custody of Singh to the NIA.

On Saturday NIA had re-registered the case against Singh and three Hizbul Mujahideen militants who were arrested along with deputy superintendent of police on the national highway.

The police has already completed its investigations and handed over details to NIA officials. Soon after the arrest, police had constituted a special investigation team to probe this high profile case.On Saturday, the NIA spokesperson had said that NIA had re-registered this case as RC no 01/2020/NIA and started the investigation.

J&K DGP Dilbag Singh said the case has been transferred to NIA. “He said NIA has registered the case and custody of Davinder is being handed over to the agency.”

The DGP said the daughters of Davinder are pursuing MBBS in Bangladesh.

“Whether his going there was limited to that or something else that will be investigated. ”Sources said that after getting the custody, the NIA team will be questioning Singh about cases and operations conducted in the past and will probe whether Singh was acting independently or some other officials were in league with him.

Last week, Davinder’s police medal was taken away by the J&K government and J&K home secretary Shaleen Khabra issued a notification on the same.
