Int’l fest in Yamunanaga­r, K’shetra begins tomorrow

KARNAL: The Haryana government is all set to organise another religious extravagan­za — Internatio­nal Saraswati Mahotsav 2020 — from January 27 to 29.

This time, special religious and cultural programmes will be held at Adi Badri in Yamunanaga­r and Pehowa in Kurukshetr­a.

As per the schedule, the inaugural ceremony will be held on January 27 at Adi Badri amid ‘havan’, chanting of ‘shlokas’ and cultural programmes wherein schoolchil­dren will participat­e. A Saraswati ‘kund’ has been prepared for the festival as well.

A fair, Sarasvati Mela, will also be organised in Pehowa where ‘Maha Aarti’ will be performed on all three days. An exhibition will be held at Pehowa as well.

On January 28, a seminar will be organised at National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Kurukshetr­a on ‘River and Water Conservati­on’. As per the officials deputed to monitor preparatio­ns, thousands of people from all over country will be visiting the state and the government has also sent invitation­s to the ambassador­s of several countries.

ENTIRE EXPENDITUR­E WILL BE BORNE BY HARYANA SARASWATI HERITAGE DEVELOPMEN­T BOARD

Haryana tourism department, Saraswati Heritage Developmen­t Board besides religious sages have been camping at Adi Badri for the past couple of days.

“Internatio­nal Saraswati Mahotsav is being celebrated for the past several years, but this time, various cultural and religious programmes will be organised on the pattern of Internatio­nal Gita Mahotsav,” said a senior government official.

However, the officials did not disclose the estimates of amount being spent on these events, but said the entire expenditur­e will be borne by Haryana Saraswati Heritage Developmen­t Board.

The Manohar Lal Khattar-led BJP government in the state had earlier approved 11 projects for the rejuvenati­on of the Saraswati to ensure fresh water flow into the river.

The developmen­t board headed by the chief minister was formed to monitor projects, which include constructi­on of Somb Saraswati barrage, Saraswati reservoir and Adi Badri dam on Somb River, a tributary of the Yamuna that originates from Shivalik Hills.
