ANOTHER CHILD DIES IN UDHAMPUR, TOLL TOUCHES 12

JAMMU: One more child, who had fallen ill due to mysterious disease, died in Ramnagar area of Udhampur district here on Wednesday. It has taken the death toll to 12 in past one month.

One-and-half-year-old boy from Palasa village in Ramngar area of Udhampur has been hospitalis­ed in Sri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) hospital, Jammu, for the past nine days.

The child remained critical during treatment and had renal failure. The kid was on life support for the last few days.

“The family of the child has been insisting on dischargin­g the toddler. In the morning, we discharged the child, who was in critical condition,” said Dr GS Saini, head pediatrics department, Sri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) hospital.

It is learnt that the child died soon after he was discharged. Four other children of Ramnagar area are undergoing treatment in Postgradua­te Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, and one in DMC Ludhiana .The children contractin­g the disease develop symptoms of fever, cold and they also vomit eventually leading to renal failure.

There are around 10 to 15 villages in the radius of 30kms in Ramnagar tehsil where the children had fallen ill .

Meanwhile, the eight member medical team of experts from PGIMER, Chandigarh that visited the Ramnagar area on Tuesday concluded their visit on Wednesday. The team will submit their report to Directorat­e General of Health Services (DGHS)- health and family welfare ministry.
