MAN DUPED OF ₹65,000 ON PRETEXT OF LOAN

GURUGRAM: A 35-year-old man was duped of around ₹65,000 after he received a phone call from an unidentifi­ed person who promised to provide him a loan worth ₹80,000, police said on Sunday. The victim made seven payments to the bank account of the person.

Sharukh Khan, the victim, is a resident of Ghasola village in Sector 49. He works at a private company in Gurugram. The incident took place on November 9, 2019, when he received the phone call from an unidentifi­ed man regarding the loan.

Khan said, “He told me that if I deposit some money in his bank account, then I would get a loan of around ₹80,000 plus the amount that I deposited.” In the police complaint, he alleged that he made seven payments to the man between November 9 and 11 totalling around ₹65,000. The police said that they registered the case after the initial investigat­ion by the cyber police.

ASI Deepak said, “The suspect is yet to be identified and arrested.” A case was registered against the suspect under sections 379 (theft) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC.

In a separate incident, a 38-year-old man was duped of ₹46,000 while trying to buy a phone on an online marketplac­e in Sector 40, police said on Sunday.

Abhay Gupta, the victim, is a resident of South City-1, Sector 40. The incident took place in November 2019, when he saw an advertisem­ent for the phone on the website of the marketplac­e. A case was registered under sections 379 and 420 of the IPC.
