INDIA MUST STAND ITS GROUND

The bloody clash between Indian and Chinese soldiers in Ladakh is another chapter in China’s history of violating agreements. China had attacked India in 1962 violating the ‘Panchsheel’ agreement. This time, it assaulted Indian soldiers after the army commanders reached an agreement. China’s intentions are clear. It is trying to alter the Line of Actual Control to its advantage. India must stand its ground and not let that happen. The Chinese cannot afford to escalate the conflict in view of their economic interest in India.

Niranjan Walia, Jalandhar is a peace-loving nation that has not invaded a single country. By killing Indian soldiers through deceit, China has committed hara-kiri (ceremonial suicide) since it has lost the Indian market. The globally-isolated country forgot that its counterpar­t has a strategic advantage in the disputed region and Indian troops are better at mountain warfare. Amritsar that these soldiers died during a violent scuffle and not in gun battle. It is baffling that our soldiers did not open fire in self-defence. Either they were unarmed or they were under strict orders to not open fire. Our government too is handling the news in a secretive manner. At first, the death of only three soldiers was confirmed. Now, the tally is 20 and it is said that many more soldiers are missing.
