Missing liquor case: Suspended SHO arrested in Rohtak
REVELATION Kingpin says the former cop helped him in smuggling
ROHTAK: The special investigation team (SIT) constituted to look into the missing liquor case arrested the suspended Kharkhauda station house officer (SHO), Jasbir Singh, who was on run since April 30, from Rohtak on Wednesday.
Sonepat superintendent of police (SP) Jashandeep Randhawa had suspended Jasbir for his alleged involvement in the said case on May 21.
Sampla deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Narender Singh said they caught Jasbir from Rohtak and produced him in a local court that sent him in four-day police remand.
“Ever since the police arrested main accused Bhupinder Singh after 5,500 boxes of liquor went missing from a godown belonging to his mother in Kharkhauda, Jasbir Singh, whose name also cropped up in the case, had been absconding. During his remand, Bhupinder revealed that Jasbir, who was posted as the Kharkhauda SHO, had helped him in his business of smuggling illicit liquor,” the DSP added.
The suspended cop had assumed charge in January this year. He was sent to the Police Lines on April 30 after his name surfaced in this case.
Jasbir is an ex-serviceman had joined the Haryana Police as a sub-inspector after retirement.
The DSP said they will question Jasbir about the involvement of other people in the scam during his remand period.
The SIT had on June 21 arrested excise inspector Dhirender, who confessed to his involvement in the scam and having links with Jasbir and Bhupinder.
A police official privy to the development said during the course of investigation, Bhupinder had revealed that he, along with his accomplices, was involved in selling Haryanamade liquor in Punjab by using fake labels.
“The accused also told the police that he carried a spare key to the godown from where 5,500 boxes of liquor had gone missing,” the official added.
