MISUSE OF POWER

-

The Tamil Nadu Police have yet again made headlines for their brutality. The death of a man and his son in custody was not the only instance of police brutality in the state. On June 21, Tamil Nadu cops were caught beating a boy after they got into an argument with the boy’s mother for running her food cart beyond permitted hours in Coimbatore. In another case, on June 28, Kumaresan, a 25-year-old auto driver died after being beaten up by cops while in custody in Tenkasi district of Tamil Nadu. Many other cases may not have come to light. The police have been misusing their power during lockdown. If Jeyaraj and Beniks had been found guilty through the judicial process, they would have received a sentence of three months in jail. Instead, they received a death penalty. Is this justice? Gaurav Kumar
