6 fatalities, 246 new corona cases in J&K

SRINAGAR:: Jammu and Kashmir on Monday recorded six deaths and 246 fresh Covid-19 infections, taking the total number of cases in the Union territory to 8,675, officials said.

Of the new cases, 210 are from Kashmir and 36 from Jammu division. Among these, 35 patients have a travel history.

Officials said six more people have succumbed to the disease in Kashmir. With this, the death toll in the UT has risen to 138—124 fatalities in Kashmir and 14 in Jammu division till date.

The UT, particular­ly Kashmir valley, is witnessing an increase in death toll for more than two weeks. More than half of the total fatalities due to Covid-19 in J&K have come since June 18.

Active cases in the UT stand at 3,219 after 63 more patients recovered on Monday. Eight people were discharged in Jammu division and 55 in Kashmir, a government spokespers­on said.

The number of people who have recovered since the first cases emerged on March 9 has reached 5,318, taking the recovery rate to 61.3%. Of the total recoveries, 4,013 were cured in Kashmir while 1,305 in Jammu division.

In Kashmir, the highest jump in cases was witnessed in Srinagar district where 65 more people tested positive, followed by Kulgam at 49 and Baramulla at 41. In Jammu division, the highest number of 13 cases were reported in Samba district followed by six in Jammu. Till date, 2.99 lakh people have been enlisted for observatio­n — 40,157 in home quarantine, 3,219 in hospital isolation, 47 in hospital quarantine and 46,777 under home surveillan­ce. Besides these, 2.09 lakh people have completed their 28-day surveillan­ce period.
