Faridkot SSP orders security review of sect men facing threat
PATROLLING UNITS WILL BE DEPUTED ON ROUTES AROUND COMMERCIAL AND RESIDENTIAL PROPERTIES OF SECT FOLLOWERS TO ENSURE THEIR SAFETY
FARIDKOT::Days after the special investigation team (SIT) probing the sacrilege cases named 10 persons, including Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, as accused in case of theft of a ‘bir’ of Guru Granth Sahib, Faridkot senior superintendent of police (SSP) Swarndeep Singh has ordered to review security arrangements of sect followers facing threat.
The instructions have been issued on the information forwarded by the additional director general of police (ADGP intelligence).
The SSP directed to review the security of the dera followers who are accused in the sacrilege cases as well as those facing threat from Sikh hardliners. Patrolling units will be deputed on the routes around their commercial and residential properties to ensure their safety.
He also asked all the police stations to be on alert as the SIT probing the sacrilege cases is interrogating the dera followers and presenting them in court for proceedings, saying sect followers could hold protests in the district. “Keep strict vigil on dera men and other persons involved in unlawful activities,” he added.
HEARING ON BAIL PLEA OF EX-DSP, SHO ADJOURNED
Additional district and sessions judge Harbans Singh Lekhi adjourned hearing on the bail pleas of the then deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Baljit Singh and former Kotkapura station house officer (SHO) Gurdeep Singh Pandher to July 15. Pandher was arrested for his alleged involvement in tampering with evidence in the 2015 Kotkapura police firing case and presently is in judicial custody. However, Baljit had approached the court seeking anticipatory bail in the Kotkapura firing case. The SIT probing the Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan police firing incidents had summoned Baljit for questioning, but he failed to appear.
