I’m honest, blunt, but I don’t hurt other people

- Rishabh Suri

Actors always trying to be politically correct, and prim and proper, is something that’s quite common and an intrinsic part of most celebs’ persona. However, what’s rare, is actors like Mahie Gill, calling a spade a spade and not caring about what others think about them. Hence, no wonder, she admits to have never felt the need to abide by diplomacy.

“I can’t do that. Yes, I’m honest, yes I’m blunt, but I don’t hurt other people — I’ll never bad-mouth someone’s film. It’s because I know how much effort and hard work it takes to make a film, bahut logon ka ghar chalta hai, 200 people work with you. It’s just that I have guts to say no to something I don’t like, even if it’s a big director,” says Gill, who has been a part of films such as Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster and Dabangg.

So, hasn’t she been advised to not do this, lest she ends up hurting someone’s ego, and it affects her career? “I’ve always refused films nicely, and it happened a lot of times. I say ‘I don’t like the role’, and people too say then I said it honestly, and didn’t give an excuse of unavailability of dates. It’s my choice and my life,” she says.

Extremely protective of her personal space, Gill, 44, isn’t the one to be spotted at random places or getting clicked while socialising. Talking of which, she says, “A lot of people used to tell me ‘dikhna chahiye, akhbaaron mein aana chahiye’. I‘d be like ‘why? I’m a very private person, not flamboyant at all’. I feel I should only come out when there’s something to speak. I had a film recently, Door Ke Darshan, I could only talk about that. What (else) will I speak about? That I went on holiday, did this, that? I have no clue. That’s my personality, I can’t change that. I want to be there when something interesting is happening, work wise,” explains the actor.
