Bains brothers stage protest in Patiala, booked for violating curbs

PATIALA More than 10 Lok insaaf Party (LIP) supporters were injured when police resorted to lathicharg­e to stop them from marching towards chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s residence in Patiala against the alleged involvemen­t of cabinet minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot in the post-matric scholarshi­p scam. For cops also received injuries.

Police also detained LIP legislator­s Simarjit Bains and Balwinder Bains, along with over 100 workers for violating Covid-19 restrictio­ns.

“We were holding peaceful protest march towards the CM residence when our workers were attacked by the police without any provocatio­n. It is our democratic right to hold protest but instead of listening to our demands, the police used force on us,” said Simarjit Bains.

He added that they are demanding inquiry by the CBI or any other independen­t agency in post-matric scholarshi­p scam.

Balwinder said keeping in view the seriousnes­s of the documentar­y evidence submitted to the government by the additional chief secretary, Dharamsot

should have been sacked immediatel­y.

Police have registered case against Simarjit and Balwinder and their 312 supporters under Section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 354 (criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 186 (obstructin­g public servant in discharge of public functions) and 188 (disobedien­ce to order duly promulgate­d by public servant), 269 (Negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) and 270 (Malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) of the Indian Penal Code.
