MANALI-LEH NH RESTORED FOR TRAFFIC

SHIMLA : Leh-Manali National Highway (NH-3) which was blocked due to heavy snowfall has been cleared for vehicular traffic towards Keylong via the Atal Tunnel. However, only 4x4 vehicles were allowed on the National Highway.

The district administra­tion of Lahaul and Spiti restricted the entry of tourists to the Lahaul valley till January 24 because of the slippery condition of the road.

The road beyond Solang Nala till Atal Tunnel will remain closed. Kullu SP Gaurav Singh said that the road is being cleared of snow.

Meanwhile, an avalanche warning in Kullu, LahaulSpit­i, and Chamba districts has also been issued by Snow and Avalanche Studies Establishm­ent (SASE) Manali for today.

As per the advisory issued by SASE, avalanches are very likely to occur in Manali Leh axis, Manali Beas Kund axis and Udaipur-Killar-Chamba including Rohtang, Sissu, Tandi, Rohtang Tunnel North and South Portal, Keylong, Udaipur having partially unsafe danger level.

Weather is most likely to remain dry and sunny throughout the state on Saturday however, cold waves will continue to persist, said state’s meteorolog­ical department director Manmohan Singh.

The minimum temperatur­e in Shimla on Saturday is 5.1°C while the minimum temperatur­e in Kufri is 4.6°C.

Kalpa in Kinnaur district shivered at -3.8°C minimum temperatur­e while Keylong is the coldest place in the state as it recorded -9°C minimum temperatur­e.
