PDP leader Waheed Parra granted bail in terror case
JAMMU : A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court here granted bail to People’s Democratic Party (PDP) youth wing president Waheed Parra in a terror case, officials said on Saturday.
He was arrested for alleged militant links on November 25 last year.
A special judge for NIA cases Sunit Gupta ordered Parra’s release upon furnishing a bail bond and surety of Rs 1 lakh.
Parra was taken to Jammu and produced before the court in a case related to his alleged “closed links” with Irfan Shafi Mir, who was earlier arrested along with Hizbul Mujahideen militant Naveed Babu and suspended deputy superintendent of police Davinder Singh.
The court also directed Parra not to leave the Union territory without prior written permission of the court during the period of bail. He shall also not approach any of the prosecution witnesses with the purpose to win them over or commit any offence during the period of interim bail.
The judge also directed Parra to surrender his passport to the court.
On December 19, a special NIA court had granted 30-day judicial custody of the PDP leader. According to the agency, during the investigation into Davinder Singh’s association with Hizbul Mujahedeen militants, the NIA came across phone records of Mir which showed that he was in close contact with Parra.
On Friday, Jammu and Kashmir administration started gathering details about the properties of Parra in Srinagar on the instructions of the NIA.
The office of deputy commissioner of Srinagar has issued a communication to officials seeking details about the properties of Parra in the district.
Parra won the DDC election as a People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) candidate.
