643 schools to get grant for sports infrastruc­ture

The department is focusing on sports infrastruc­ture, especially the developmen­t of play grounds at government smart schools.

MOGA: The Punjab school education department has selected 643 government smart elementary and secondary schools for upgrade of their sports infrastruc­ture.

The instructio­ns along with list of schools have been sent to each district education officer, elementary and secondary, across state, said an official.

Amritsar to benefit the most

Amritsar district (51) has highest number of schools, which will get money from department for sports infrastruc­ture, followed by Jalandhar with 48 schools, while in Rupnagar district only 8 schools will get this grant.

The department has selected 43 schools from Bathinda district, 15 of Barnala, 27 of Faridkot, 13 of Fatehgarh Sahib district, 38 of Fazilka, 18 of Ferozepur, 38 of Gurdaspur, 20 of Kapurthala, and 42 government schools from Hoshiarpur.

Similarly, 43 schools of Ludhiana, 27 of Mansa, 39 of Moga, 28 of Muktsar, 13 of Pathankot, 39 of Patiala, 8 of Ropar, 18 of SBS Nagar, 33 of Sangrur, 22 of Mohali and 31 of Taran Taran district will get this financial aid from department. A department official said each of these schools have a strength of over 300. “Schools were directed to send their requiremen­ts and if they need funds for developmen­t of a play ground, they should make sure that the land is registered in the name of the school,” he added

Rakesh Makkar, deputy DEO, secondary education, Moga, said, “The department is focusing on sports infrastruc­ture, especially the developmen­t of play grounds at government smart schools. Regular virtual meetings with higher officials are held every month to improve sports infrastruc­ture.”
