KARNAL: Farmers union leaders are approaching every village and requesting farmers for their supports to revive the agitation against three farm laws.

Now, village-level meetings are being organised and farmers are collecting donations to continue the agitation which suffered a jolt after violence during the tractor parade on Republic Day.

“Soon after we came to know that the government was planning to remove the protesting farmers forcibly, we convened an emergency meeting and decided to collect Rs 100 per acre from every framer and send two tractor-trailers to Delhi,” said farmer Darshan Lal, of Halalpur village in Kurukshetra.

Another farmer, Rampal, of Pehowa in Kurukshetra, said, “We have decided to ensure the presence of at least 10 people from our village to remain at Singhu border permanently. They will keep replacing every week.”

To boost the morale of farmers, local farmer leaders convened village-level meetings of farmers and sought their support for the agitation.

“This is a fight for our next generations. We need farmers’ support as government is not ready to accept our demands,” said Sanju Gundiana, a BKU leader at Kheri village in Yamunanagar.

The appeals being made by farm leaders evoked good response from the farmers as the strength of protesters at toll plazas in the northern districts is swelling up with each passing day, besides the movement of farmers on NH-44 continued for the past couple of days. On Tuesday, hundreds of women and children reached Panipat toll plaza to join the ongoing protest.

The women prepared langar for the farmers travelling on NH-44. In Kurukshetra, hundreds of farmers took out a protest march in support of the farmers’ agitation.

Also, Bharatiya Kisan Union (Charuni) president Gurnam Singh Charuni has decided to visit all toll plazas in state in the next two days to request farmers for participation in the ‘Chakka Jam’ call given by the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha on February 6.
