End Badal clan’s hold over Bathinda: Chadha

- HT Correspondent letterschd@hindustantimes.com :

BATHINDA Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) co-incharge for Punjab, Raghav Chadha on Wednesday gave a call to “end” the Badal clan’s political hold over Bathinda.

Before starting a roadshow to support the party candidates contesting in the ensuing municipal corporation polls near Model Town here, Chadha said Congress legislator Manpreet Badal and SAD leader Harmsimrat Kaur Badal, who is representing the Bathinda Lok Sabha seat for a third consecutive term, have failed to meet the aspiration of the residents.

Chadha led a caravan of cars and motorbikes in various parts of the city with candidates from different wards.

“The Badal clan has entered both traditional political parties but they have done nothing to strengthen the infrastructure of the city. AAP has presented the role of pro-people governance in Delhi and time has come to give a chance to a non-Congress and non-Akali front,” he said.

He charged Manpreet for giving false assurances to win over voters of Bathinda.

“Ahead of the last assembly polls, this Congress candidate had publicly announced to restart Guru Nanak Dev thermal power plant. But on assuming power, Manpreet scripted a project to dismantle the same power utility. The same leader contributed nothing to the city’s development or civic amenities,” he added.

Capt playing with fire, says state BJP chief

CHANDIGARH : Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Ashwani Sharma on Wednesday accused chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh of playing with fire by promoting and supporting bad elements to attack BJP leaders in Punjab.

Addressing a press conference, Sharma claimed that BJP workers and leaders are being attacked on the pretext of farm laws, with the Punjab DGP and the State Election Commission (SEC) acting as mute spectators.

“Tuesday’s statement by the CM, which he issued after I was attacked in Ferozepur, and wherein he justified the attack on BJP leaders and workers is shocking. Such statements are not expected from a CM. Amarinder must understand he is playing with fire and his support to those attacking us would has only established anarchy in the state,” Sharma alleged.
