Amid complaints of private hospitals fleecing Covid-19 patients, the Rewari administration has de-notified two private hospitals Captain Nand Lal Hospital in Rewari and Medi Home in Dharuhera - while the Hisar administration has de-notified Soni Burn Hospital, where five people had allegedly died of oxygen shortage.

Rewari deputy commissioner Yashendra Singh visited both private hospitals on May 13 after receiving complaints from Covid patients’ kin that these hospitals were charging exorbitant fees.

“After conducting raids, we found irregularities and served show-cause notices to them. After an inquiry, we notified both the hospitals and they cannot admit Covid patients now. Patients’ kin can lodge FIRs against them for fleecing,” the DC added.

The Rewari DC said he will take strict action against hospitals that are fleecing patients.

They alleged that the hospital authorities were charging three to four times more than the rates announced by the Haryana government.

An official of the Hisar administration said they had de-notified Soni Burn Hospital after it failed to fulfil all requirements to treat Covid patients.

Karnal hospital charges ₹4.62 lakh from Covid patient

The Karnal deputy commissioner has ordered an inquiry as the family of a Covid-19 patient accused the hospital of overcharging.

In the complaint, son of the patient alleged that the hospital provided them bills of Rs 4.62 lakh and charged Rs 44,000 for 22 PPE kits used by the doctors from May 4 to 25. He said the hospital also charged Rs 3,15,000 of Covid ICU, Rs 76,000 for medicines, Rs 30,000 for tests and CT scans.

He said government has already fixed rates of hospitals for Covid patients but the hospital overcharged.
