IN A TWO-MINUTE VIDEO RELEASED BY THE BANNED ORGANISATION, SIKH SOLDIERS WERE EXHORTED TO LEAVE BORDERS AND TAKE PART IN KHALISTAN REFERENDUM

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Police have booked Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, general counsel and founder of the banned Khalistani organisation Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), for mutiny for his recent video in which he was seen exhorting Sikh soldiers of the army to stop defending Indian borders and gather at the Akal Takht to join the “Khalistan referendum”.

Pannun has been booked under Sections 131 and 132 of the IPC (abetting mutiny, or attempting to seduce a soldier, sailor or airman from his duty; and abetment of mutiny, if mutiny is committed in consequence thereof), Section 153 (provocation with intent to cause riot) and Section 505 (1) (for making publishes or circulates any statement or report containing rumour or alarming news with intent to disturb communal harmony) and Section 506 (criminal intimidation).

The video was uploaded on YouTube on June 4 and has been deleted after a complaint by the Punjab Police. The provisions of Sections 10 and 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, has also been imposed.

“Apart from this, a text message containing the same content as mentioned in the video has also been circulated in WhatsApp groups,” the FIR reads.

The FIR reads that Pannun has also committed unlawful activities being a member of a proscribed organisation, which has been declared an unlawful association by the Government of India.

The FIR was registered after taking legal opinion from the state government.

Pannun has recently been booked by the Himachal Pradesh Police in a couple of cases.

Five FIRs have been registered in Punjab in past over two years against Pannun who kept on calling people to join the referendum for Khalistan.

Intel alert over SFJ’s call to gangsters to kill Op Bluestar veterans NEW DELHI: On the 38th anniversary of Operation Bluestar, intelligence agencies have issued an alert for the security agencies concerned and the state police after the SFJ released a video allegedly asking Punjab-based gangsters to join SFJ in killing Indian army officers who led the Operation Bluestar at Amritsar’s Golden Temple in 1984.

The input shared with security agencies reads that incitement on social media portals of Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, general counsel, SFJ, released a video on social media platform saying that, “Don’t kill the rising artiste, if only bullets are to be fired. The army officer who led operation Bluestar, General Kuldeep Brar and Brigadier Israr Khan are enemies of the Sikh community and are responsible for the attack on the Swarna temple, Amritsar, in 1984.”

The state police concerned are advised to take all precautionary measures and keep a close watch on any such kind of activity, the Indian security agencies advised.

In an about two-minute-long video released by the SFJ, the pictures of Army veterans have been used giving a call for Khalistan referendum on June 6.

A senior official said they are keeping a close watch on social media and they request people not to share such videos.

The on-ground officers of intelligence services are keeping watch on any suspicious movement and coordinating with concerned state police, an official said.
