Girls again outshine boys in PSEB Class-12 exams

MOHALI: The Punjab School Education Board on Tuesday declared the Class 12 result for the 2021-22 session with a pass percentage of 96.96%. The results will be uploaded for the students on the PSEB’s official website www.pseb.ac.in and on www.indiaresults.com after 10am on Wednesday.

This time, the exams were held in offline mode after two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In this session, a total of 3,01,700 students appeared for the exam of which 2,92,530 passed. This year too, girls outshone boys with an average pass percentage of 97.78%, while boys scored 96.27%. The pass percentage of transgenders was 90% as nine of the 10 students cleared the exam.

This year, the first three positions were bagged by girls, who scored equal marks in the humanities stream at 99.4% (497/500). They were ranked on the basis of their age. The youngest among the three was declared first.

The first position in the state was bagged by Arshdeep Kaur of Teja Singh Sutantar Memorial Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana. Arshpreet Kaur of Government Senior Secondary School, Bachhoana, Mansa, was declared second and Kulwinder Kaur from Saraswati Senior Secondary School, Jaitu, Faridkot, came third.

Meanwhile, Rohit Kumar of Government Senior Secondary School, Kamahi Devi, Hoshiarpur, scored 496 out of 500 marks to top the science stream. Ankita of GTB Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Malout, also scored 496/500 marks and topped the commerce stream.

At 98.49%, Pathankot tops among districts

Meanwhile, Pathankot district topped the state with a pass percentage of 98.49% followed by Rupnagar at 98.48 % and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar bagged the third position with 98.24%. Gurdaspur district remained on the bottom of the list with a pass percentage of 94.21%.

Addressing mediapersons, PSEB chairman Yograj Sharma said, “This year, the exams were held in the offline mode. In 2020 and 2021, the board had not conducted the exams and had followed CBSE pattern for results. In 2021, 96.48% students were declared pass by the PSEB and they were evaluated based on their performance in internal assessments.”

“This year, no grace marks were given and students performed well. Pass percentage of both urban schools and rural schools was more or less similar. In urban schools it was 97%, while in rural schools, it was 96.9%,” he said.

Among the governmentaided, affiliated and associated schools of PSEB, the maximum pass percentage was recorded by government schools at 97.43%, followed by 96.86% by government-aided schools, 96.23% by affiliated schools and 93.3% by associated schools.

In the commerce stream, the pass percentage is 97.95, while in humanities it was 96.68%, in science 97.83% and in vocational education 96.44%.
