Gaurav leaves behind his male ego to play woman

- YASHIKA MATHUR

The videos of Chutki and shopkeeper are creating much buzz on the social media, and actor Gaurav Gera (right), who plays the popular character, says that he can pull off a female role better than other actors. “I realised that I could play a woman more effectively than other actors because I could leave my ego behind. Mostly, when actors cross-dress, they try to evoke laughter through male mannerisms and feminine dressing. But I transform completely into a woman,” says Gaurav, who has played female characters in shows such as Dekh India Dekh and Pammi Pyarelal.

The 41-year-old has used digital platform to promote his Chutki videos and uploaded them on Facebook. They were eventually shared across different socialnetworking sites. “I studied which online platforms to work on. I even studied which platform has been bought by which company and what kind of users it has. My Facebook page had a strong fan following from the beginning and that is why I could post videos of a particular length there,” says Gaurav, whose videos have now been picked up by an entertainment channel as well.

Playing a woman on-screen has made Gaurav learn new things about makeup. “I did not even know that there is something known as a long-lasting lipstick. It’s so tough to get off ! So when I send my driver to buy lipstick, I tell him, ‘Don’t get that longlasting lip colour’,” he laughs.
