Actor Shruti Haasan (left) says she’s “protective” of her younger sister Akshara (inset), who made inroads into Bollywood with her film Shamitabh (2015).

“I’m very protective of Akshara and also very proud of her achievements. I can’t wait to see her do more and make us all proud,” Shruti said. Daughters of veteran actors Kamal Haasan and Sarika, both Shruti and Akshara are multi-faceted. While Shruti is also a singer-composer, Akshara was active behind the cameras as an assistant director before facing the camera for the R Balakrishnan directorial.

Though she has been a part of many films, Shruti says acting was never on her mind initially. She always felt that she won’t fit in as a heroine and looked towards singing as a career.

“I never planned to be an actor in Bollywood as I never felt I could look the part. I always wanted to get into music. I am particularly passionate about composing,” she shared. In the Hindi film industry, Shruti has done films like Luck (2009), Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji (2012), D-Day (2013), Gabbar is Back (2015) and Welcome Back (2015). She has also been seen in many Telugu and Tamil films. Her kitty of films is full with five projects as of now. These include projects a Tamil fantasy adventure film and an action thriller directed by Nishikant Kamat.

“With five films in the pipeline, I have been really busy with work and have not had the time to compose music but I hope to start next year,” she said.
