‘Want to make my parents proud’

Being the daughter of veteran lyricist and scriptwriter Gulzar and yesteryear actor Rakhee, filmmaker

Meghna Gulzar (right) was born into the film industry but she never aimed at exceeding the success that her parents have had.

“I never looked at being the daughter of Gulzar and Rakhee as any kind of pressure. I looked at it as a goal, as an aspiration, but not something to surpass or be equivalent to. It was something that kept me going. For me, making them proud of my work is my motivation. In the end, it is about how you look at your upbringing,” says Meghna, who has directed movies such as Filhaal… (2002) and Just Married (2007).

Meghna’s work includes poems, directing music videos as well as writing stories. “I always had creative yearnings and the visual medium is the most powerful of all mediums. In that I’ve made music videos, documentaries and also corporate films.
