‘I’m not in the SRK camp’

- Sneha Mahadevan

Actor Kriti Sanon got a lot of compliments for her fresh face in her debut film Heropanti (2014) alongside actor Tiger Shroff. After the film released, she bagged Rohit Shetty’s mega-budget Dilwale with actors Shah Rukh Khan, Varun Dhawan and Kajol. So, at 25 and in her second film, she is already working with SRK. Does that make her a part of the SRK camp in B-Town? “I don’t want to be a part of any camp. I don’t think there is any camp now. If you are talking about Shah Rukh sir and Salman sir, our trailer is releasing with their (Salman’s) next film, so I don’t think there is any rivalry,” she says, adding, “As an actor, you should work with everyone and not let other people’s equations let you change your opinion about anyone. I am too new and unaware to get into all that.”

But Sanon is sure that she doesn’t want to restrict herself to any genre. “As an actor I need to be very careful about what I choose. I want to do a performance-driven role, something that has the potential for me to show my skills as an actor. But, at the same time, I don’t want to restrict myself to one genre. Since I am doing a commercial film now, I don’t want my films to be limited only to that. I don’t like horror as a genre so I don’t think I will ever do a horror film. That’s my only criteria,” she says.

Ask her if there is a particular film or actor she looks up to, and she is quick to point out that Kangana Ranaut’s performance in Queen (2013), that saw Ranaut’s character Rani discovering herself, is her benchmark and that she is looking forward to a meaty role like that: “I would love to do a film like Queen though I don’t think I can pull off a film like that right now. It is my benchmark. If I ever manage to do it, I would be really proud of myself.”
