Bollywood divas sneak around in style

Get over towering platforms and dizzying heels. The hottest style trend says — choose head over heels. Our Bollywood beauties have swapped those killer six-inchers with comfy pairs of sneakers. Actors such as Neha Dhupia, Kangana Ranaut and Deepika Padukone were spotted fearlessly teaming their dresses with fun sneakers. Experts say that the concept of glamming up sports shoes is novel and evolving. “Couture sneakers has really picked up in the past couple of years with sports luxe becoming a big trend. Also, I am all for the school of thought where comfort can be filtered into fashion. But, there must be a special element to the sneakers that will save you from looking like you’re coming straight out of the gym,” says designer Nachiket Barve.

Designer Samant Chauhan says that the trend of mixing sportswear with casual glamour is a global one. “Even though I think it might be a short-term trend when it comes to the red carpet, it is definitely very in. To make it more fun, an outfit can be colourblocked with sneakers,” he says. And, it’s also about picking the right pair. “Pairing sneakers with your dress is a handy solution for girls who dislike heels. A bejewelled pair is all you need to add some quirk into your style,” says designer Jenjum Gadi. When choosing a pair, go for one that says utilitarian chic. “The sneakers should not be bulky. From colours to embroidery, go for a pair that spells sporty cool,” suggests Barve.
