Tough for couples to romance onscreen: Anurag
If the actors are lovers in real life, it gets difficult for them to bring their chemistry on screen
Filmmaker Anurag Basu (above), who is working with actor Ranbir Kapoor and his girlfriend Katrina Kaif in his next film, says that casting real-life couples in a film is often a disadvantage, as it is difficult for them to romance on-screen.
The upcoming detective comedy-drama will reunite Basu with his Barfi star and this is the first time the director is helming a project with Katrina as the female lead. “Having a real-life couple is not an advantage, but rather a disadvantage. The actors know each other so well and are lovers in real life too, so it gets difficult for them to bring their chemistry on screen. That’s why this (film) is going to be very challenging,” says Basu.
Meanwhile, the director says that the film is not delayed and it was supposed to come after Ranbir’s other projects — Bombay Velvet and his recently released Imtiaz Ali directorial, as the actor prefers to have a gap of six months between his two movies. “We have not yet shot the whole film. Ranbir is shooting Karan Johar’s film. I have only shot for a few days when he (Ranbir) was free. When I started my film, I knew this is going to be my schedule, as Ranbir keeps a gap of six months between two films. No actor would release two films back-to-back. So, this was the chronology that was supposed to happen.”
There has been a lot of speculations about the new film, but Basu is not complaining, as he feels that it is a good sign and shows that people are curious about the project. “It is good that speculations are there, it shows people are curious about the film,” he says.
