While most people choose to become vegans to protect animals, there have also been instances of people converting for health benefits. “It was difficult initially, but eventually, I gave up everything, from milk to ghee. Now I feel more energetic and have also lost weight,” says Pushpa Soni, 58, housewife.
Businesswoman Tehseen Dudani, 41, too, dropped 10kg soon after she turned vegan. “I was shocked when I was diagnosed with diabetes and thyroid three years ago. In spite of being a non-vegetarian, I decided to take up the diet. It took three weeks to reverse the diabetes,” says Dudani, adding, “However, not all vegan food is healthy. For instance, French fries are for vegans too.”
