Katrina Kaif says people’s interest in her personal life has always taken precedence over work

Katrina Kaif turned a year older on Saturday and ushered in her birthday with a private, star-studded bash. The 33-year-old actor admits that she “loves birthdays, balloons, partying hard, jumping around and having fun with friends and family.” Before she heads out of Mumbai for a few days, HT caught up with Katrina for a quick chat…

We heard you had a working birthday this year…

Yes, exactly (smiles)! Honestly, I am working really hard on my new film, which is in the dubbing stage now. Plus, right before my birthday, work was also going on the Facebook launch, which we did on July 16. I am on Facebook since Saturday. I will be joining Twitter and, perhaps, Instagram, too.

What made you join social media now?

I’ve been asked, ‘why now’ (to join social media) but honestly, the right time for anything is when you are ready. And this is exactly what I felt. In my heart, I was just happy about doing it. Also, I was starting to feel strongly that even though I am a star and a shy person, there are some things which are best understood when you say. That kind of voice or that presence is what I was happy to have. I was ready to take this step.

For past several months, your personal life has been in the focus...

This question is a bit easy for me to answer. It’s been this way for most part of my career. So, it’s something that has always been covered in a parallel manner along with the career. Work has been my main focus but my personal life as is the case with most people (in the industry) has been covered. However, in my case, it has been maybe more frequently highlighted, but it’s okay. As they say, ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.’

Workwise, there’s a perception that Katrina has slowed down. How true it is?

Honestly, it’s my process of choosing films and the way I have approached work in the last few years. You have different phases in life; and there are priorities along with other things that take precedence. That’s what is amazing, that’s the journey of life. We all follow our hearts and work where our passion and heart lies. Sometimes, others things have taken precedence in my life but at the moment, I am working with a lot of passion. I am in the process of making decisions on the kind of the film I will start next year. You’ll hear something exciting soon.
