It is heartbreaking when a film that you work so hard on doesn’t do well,” says Sidharth Malhotra. The actor, who made his debut in 2012, has been pretty lucky as far as box-office success goes.

But he doesn’t want to rest on his laurels. “We’re all in the creative field and we want our films to do well, but it doesn’t always work out. I think dealing with that comes with experience and age,” says the 31-year-old. “You have to understand that you can’t be appreciated all the time. The graph always swings — that’s what makes you more understanding, resilient. It’s a great learning (experience) to understand that nothing, good or bad, lasts long. I can’t live off the success and failures of the past.”

Though his last outing — Baar Baar Dekho, alongside Katrina Kaif — did not set the cash registers ringing, the actor does not regret signing the film. “I could’ve performed better. If you show me a scene or a take of one of my films, I’m always critical of myself. But I have no regrets,” says Sidharth.

He adds, “I’m aware of what I’m signing. I’ve tried different things and choose from what is offered. There is a thought behind it (my decisions). And once you have that, you don’t regret it.”
