It’s not uncommon to hear women cribbing about how unfair the world is to those with bodies on the heavier side. They crave to be perfect, someone who fits into that sexy XS black corset dress, with teased long hair and inch-long curled eyelashes.

They fear being judged by the salesgirl when they pick up the ‘L’ size or the man in their life who thinks they are overweight. They are so determined to achieve perfection that they do almost everything to achieve it. Skipping food, going on crazy diets, and workouts that experts consider dangerousall this becomes a part of their daily lives. But is a woman’s confidence only about how she looks? Does she really have to constantly judge herself and not accept the body she has? Experts say worrying too much about body shapes is not healthy.

“Confidence is not proportional to ones appearances but is mistaken for it. If you are fit and have a healthy lifestyle is doesn’t matter what size you are. Being happy in your skin is what brings confidence

and pride,” says designer Pallavi Mohan.

It is not tough to make your body type work for you. From comedian Amy Schumer on Vogue’s cover to Ashley Graham on the cover of Glamour, they are women who have broken the stereotype and shown how every body type can work. With fashion brands and websites selling stylish large-size clothing, there is no dearth of options.

Designer Nikhil Thampi says that overweight women shouldn’t try to hide under oversized clothes. “As a designer, I conceal and contour a woman’s body in a way that she looks glamourous. Ditch oversize clothing, and opt for fitting silhouettes that make your body look flattering,” he says.

We spoke to one such woman — popular RJ with Fever 104 FM — Stutee Ghosh who is a style inspiration when it comes to making the best of her body type.
