‘THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS PERFECTION’

Aamir Khan dismisses titles such as Mr Innovative or Mr Perfectionist; says if anything, he’s Mr Passionate

From gate crashing weddings to interacting with audience through talking standees, actor Aamir Khan’s promotional and marketing techniques for films have always won praise from fans. Applaud his unconventional approach, and the 51-year-old says it’s always the demand of the film.

“It’s is a myth that I do something innovative every time. I only do what the film requires me to do. My attempt is to be honest with the project. Marketing is very much a part of filmmaking and I want people to understand the kind of film I’m doing.”

The actor shrugs off yet another quality of his. He says unlike popular opinion, he’s no Mr Perfectionist. “This title is not for me. The accurate title would be Mr. Passionate. That’s what I am. According to me, there is no such thing as perfection, certainly not in the creative field,” he says.

In the last eight years, most of Aamir’s films such as 3 Idiots (2009), Ghajini (2008) and Dhoom 3 (2015) have released around Christmas in the month of December. Is the month lucky for him?

“I’d like to believe that my previous films were good films and people genuinely liked them, and that they didn’t just do good because of luck... It’s honestly more of a coincidence that somehow my films have been getting ready towards the end of the year. And around this time, there are only two big dates available, Diwali and Christmas... because it’s holiday season. So from that point of view, it’s a happy coincidence.”

The otherwise clean-shaven Aamir is sporting a beard these days. Is this his look for his next film, Thugs of Hindostan? Agreeing, he says: “This is for the film, but not the final look. We still need to zero down on the final look.”
