‘Women are conditioned to accept and keep quiet about so many issues’

-

Actor Kirti Kulhari (above) says women experience so much while growing up that they tend to accept this is how society works.

“Through the years, you get conditioned a certain way... You tend to ignore, learn to let go, hide some things, express some things,” says Kirti, adding that her latest film, Pink — an Indian courtroom drama, also starring actor Amitabh Bachchan — made her realise that so many women face issues in their lives, but never speak about them openly.

“After the film released, we got responses from strangers and people we knew. What shook me was how women rarely come out in the open,” says Kirti, who was on the judging panel of a recently-held short film festival on women’s safety and empowerment.

Meanwhile, Kirti will be playing the role of a girl with speech impediment in a Madhur Bhandarkar film. “My character is raised in an orphanage. She has a stammering problem, and loves to write and read poetry... The film will be completed by end of January. And then, I will announce two more projects,” Kirti was quoted as saying.

The actor credits Pink for changing the course of her career. “I’m happy with the projects that I’m being offered,” she had said earlier.
