‘Don’t be­lieve in con­form­ing to fash­ion norms’

Be­sides her earthen and rus­tic voice, Sona Mohapatra (right) is also known for mak­ing state­ments with her unique and colour­ful out­fits. De­spite oc­ca­sional back­lash, the singer is con­fi­dent and proud of her style and fash­ion choices.

“I am a flam­boy­ant per­son and I think per­son­al­ity is some­thing you should be proud of. As a live per­former, I am al­ways very ex­cited by clothes that speak a lan­guage of their own,” Sona said re­cently.

The 40-year-old singer, known for songs such as Ba­hara, (I hate Luv Sto­rys; 2010) Am­barsariya (Fukrey; 2013), Naina (2014) and Bedardi Raja (2011), and many other pop­u­lar songs, says her fash­ion choices of­ten land her in the worst dressed lists, but she isn't both­ered by it, and makes her own style.

“I mix and match my clothes. Most fash­ion blogs write me off, and they find me very con­fus­ing. But I do not want to con­form to fash­ion norms. I want to do my own,” she said.

“The world needs more ex­cite­ment, per­son­al­ity, a point of view and a voice,” she added.
