Bieber’s India tour sets new record
It will be the most expensive tour by an artist or promoter in the Indian sub-continent
It’s Justin Bieber’s concert, so no points for guessing that it would be big. But looks like the Canadian pop sensation’s India ‘Purpose’ Tour (in Mumbai) is set to become the first live event in India to have an investment of $4 million (`26.7 crore approximately).
Breaking all records, it will be the most expensive tour in the Indian sub continent. The expected footfall will be between 1 to 1.5 lakh — an attendance that wasn’t even seen at concerts by the likes of Coldplay, Bryan Adams and Akon. Tickets (priced `4,000 upwards) will go live on February 22. Pre-registeration for it began on Feb 15.
The Maharashtra Tourism Board will support the tour, which may increase tourism by 10%, while business for the locals (transport vendors and hotel associations) will see a rise by 30% during May, the tour month.
Arjun Jain of the event management team promoting the tour, says, “This is by far the biggest ticketed concert to be hosted in the Indian subcontinent.
The aim is that all ticket holders and fans have a seamless experience before, during and after the concert. Hence, the organisers are capping the show well in advance. Preparations will begin two months in advance.”
The Purpose World Tour has already mesmerised fans and critics alike across the US, Canada and Japan last year and will tour throughout Europe before landing in Australia and New Zealand this year. With more than 100 huge shows on the tour and close to a million ticket sales globally, Bieber is at the top of his game with this tour.
Purpose is the Grammywinning artist’s first album in two years. He holds a Guinness world record in his name for being the first singer to have seven songs from a debut album to feature on the Billboard Hot 100. Bieber also holds the record for the highest Twitter followers (91.7million) for a male user, and the highest number of YouTube subscribers for a male singer. He was the first artist to reach 10 billion views on YouTube, in 2016.
